As a passionate self-taught baker, I pour my heart into each creation. Baking is my way of giving and sharing love. Every ingredient measured, every batter mixed, and every cake decorated is an expression of my care and affection. I grew up in a home where my mother was often baking in the kitchen. To me, having home baked goods around the house was the norm. And everything from scratch, of course! I would casually watch my mother at work — the way she prepared her cake pans, how she never threw out that sour milk and left it out on the counter to warm up, the tools she used, how she tested to make sure her treats were perfectly baked. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was taking notes! I now find myself doing some of the same things, thinking of my mother all the while.
And now, at our large family gatherings, I often bring the dessert. It is always my favorite moment of our time together — when my family takes their first bite and silence follows. I wait for it. All is quiet for a moment — and it is just a moment because with 12 grandchildren running around there is rarely a quiet moment. But the crème de la crème? That’s when my father would quietly pull me aside and give me his very thoughtful and analytic critique of my creation — he was a PhD scientist and his analyses were never short of thorough, yes, even of cake. I will forever hold onto the memory of his gentle voice softly saying, “Eva, that really was very good.”

To me, home baked goods are all about family, joy, and love — those are my “secret ingredients.” All of my creations are made from scratch with the very best ingredients.
